Excessive Advertising Backfires
Personal take on advertising and user behavior.
When I browse for a product that I want but don't necessarily need, I often find myself in the middle of deciding whether I truly need it. This is a crucial time for me to make a decision and for the seller to make a sale. During this time window, I frequently get bombarded with advertisements attempting to sell me that product. There are subtle ads and aggressive ads, but I prefer the subtle ones.
If the ads are aggressive, it gives me the impression that the seller is desperate to make a sale, which raises questions in my mind. If people are already buying the product, why is there such aggressive advertising? And if the seller is investing heavily in ads, does the price of the product truly reflect its value? Am I potentially paying for a product with high profit margins but low production costs?
Personally, I tend to buy things that have little to no advertising. This is because my subconscious is more inclined towards them without any external influence. When I'm exposed to ads, it feels like my subconscious is being negatively influenced into purchasing something that I don't actually need.
Maybe excessive selling lands you the first sale, but it may not guarantee recurring sales. At a certain point, the user may become overwhelmed with your advertising, regardless of their needs.
